SmartNode has a standard RJ45 Ethernet jack that is used to connect it to a network. Simply plug in a regular Ethernet patch cable into this jack and connect the other end into a Network Switch.
SmartNode must be connected to a network during configuration and if SmartNode will be used with network protocols such as sACN, Art-Net, or UDP.
SmartNode may also be powered by Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) using this Ethernet connection.
For an explanation of the LED indicators on the Ethernet jack, see the LED Indicators page.
No network connection is required if SmartNode will be used to transfer data between its own modules locally. For example, a DMX Input module in one slot can send data locally to a Relay module in another slot.
If SmartNode is going to be used without a Network connection, either plan to power the device using the DC Input jack, or alternatively, the PoE power input can be used to supply power (using a PoE Injector) even though no Ethernet network is present.
